Post Tiesto
It’s been over a week after the Tiesto show and I still have people telling me that it was the best DJ performance they had ever seen.
I must agree! It was not only the biggest house/trance party I have been to but it was the best multi-media DJ performance I have ever seen in Toronto. I’ve been to many high profile DJ’s performances in Toronto before but Tiesto blow them away.
Tiesto’s Audience
It’s apparent Tiesto understands his audience. He not only understand what his audience likes to hear but what they like to see. From flashing lights rhythmically flowing with the music, it became a full body and mind experience.
It was a sold out show and rightfully so.
What did I learn?
Many, many things! But the most important concept was what the media will try and do for the best interview or footage.
Let me explain.
The Ricoh Coliseum is very strict about having cameras in the venue. The media has a designated area where they can film and were only granted to capture the first three songs of the show.
Nothing more!
The problem is the media doesn’t really care about the rules and will push and push to get whatever they want.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that every media outlet is like that, just a few of them.
How did I deal with the issues?
By reminder yourself that the media is also your “client” as well as the offical client you are working for. This is the best way to keep a professional stance with them.
As a publicist you are everyones best friend (even when you don’t want to be).
By explaining to the media that it’s not your decision to put them in a designated area and if it was your choice, you would let them run free.
Remember: The better the camera footage, the better the coverage is and the happier your client will be.
This is where being a chameleon helps tremendously! As I mentioned in a previous blog, VOCAB’s 10 PR Secrets, having a chameleon personality will help you deal with multiple people at one time. Expecially when the media becomes demanding.
Tiesto was an amazing show and made DJ history in Toronto.
Maybe he will come back next summer and blow us Torontoians away again?
Here’s hoping!

i saw Tiesto in April in the biggest club in Tokyo (ageHa) and it still feels fresh in my mind. Experiencing him play live is certainly one of the biggest delights that a true clubber can ever have!
